For a master plan for a stunning site near a tropical forest in Colombia RE architects designed a new housing principle for two integrated houses. The layout is set in an architectural expression based on floating horizontal planes. These planes are placed in such a way that each layer could be fully glazed to be able to experience the dramatic views in each room. The cantilevering planes are positioned carefully to provide shading and privacy. The organization of the 2 houses of a total of 450 m2 allows for a separate large guest-house/ office due to a possibility of an internal connection and the different position of the 2 houses. Structurally the scheme is based on a tree-like principle of a concrete core with fireplace and chimney with branches of steel beams cantilevering from this base. With basic materialization this composition is still quite affordable and due to steel prefabrication relatively easy to build.
