Amsterdam. RE architects developed a scheme for a floating & self-sustainable office of 2000 m2 free from most contextual limitations as a solution to rethink relocation. Inspired by the possibilities of building without foundation, the design is expressing the floating aspect in the most expressive way. Eight floor plates are hovering in the air in such a way that they reflect their individual colours in the water. Regardless from its orientation the huge cantilevered roofs ensure a clear 360◦ view without overheating the office, but at the same time reduce the energy consumption due to photovoltaic cell-roofing. Together with other energy recycling techniques such as using water sources for cooling/heating the floating office could even be fully self-sustainable. Voids, terraces, cantilevers & skylights makes this not only a very spacious building but a highly attractive statement for a midsize office in virtually any location near water.
